๐ This week I...
โ
๐ง ย ...have been listening to music. Chromatics, new Fourtet and moar Karenn!
๐ Ditched Into the woods by John Yorke. I hate doing this to books, but it took a lot of exposition to get to a point. For a book about writing, this is disappointing. Jumped onto The Laws of Simplicity by John Meada and cripes the first half is dull.
โ
๐๏ธ no running, but the knee is miles better. One more physio appointment next week and then I'm back on the running๐ค
โ
๐ง๐ผโโ๏ธ a good mood week. Meditated once, but got the office lurgy ย ๐คง

๐ฎ spent a lot of time thinking about design strategy and what that means. I'm writing one for membership as I've noticed a lot of gaps that could be filled and connections to be made. As a result I've listened and read a lot:
Abigail Hart Gray on Communicating the Value of Design, on the Design Better Podcast
Ready, Set, Hypergrowth: How Duo's Product Design Lead Primed Her Team for Momentum. More start up focussed but some interesting highlights:
Product strategy vs. design strategy
โ
๐ฆ after a lot of thought about this side of design and design leadership the penny dropped on what my role is and resulted in this blasรฉ, day nurse fuelled tweet. Yeah, I don't like being like that on twitter but I have spent 12 months of uncertainty and insecurity, so I indulged myself a little. Plus I was high as a kite. Don't worry though all this will come crashing down next week, it usually does.
โ
๐ฆ also, I fucking hate powerpoint.
โ
๐๐ฝwith most of my interactions with people this week I've tried to keep my mouth shut. If I do open my mouth it's to ask questions. I've learnt a lot and people seem to appreciate it more.
โ
๐ผ been thinking and talking a lot of design organisation. Also, about being a practioner of design or a manager of people. Someone mentioned to me:ย 'How would you feel about picking between people management (skills, culture, people) and product area leadership (strategy, direction, being involved in the work)?'. I honestly don't know how to answer this. I kinda like the strategy, but I love the coaching side. I've given myself 3 months to focus on the strategy side with no designing whatsoever to see what happens.
โ
๐ and Dave wrote a thing about measuring design!ย
โ
๐That's it, see you next week!
